When the Unexpected Comes

"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." – Mike Tyson.

It's not often I quote the great theologian Iron Mike, but he does have a solid point. Brace yourself.  The hits are coming. Things will not go as planned. All those great designs you've made for this week will inevitably be derailed at some point.  It isn't so much about whether something will go awry, but rather, what will go awry. Blowouts will happen on life's highway, and usually at the most inopportune time. Then what? How will you respond when life doesn't just throw you a curve ball, but a fastball right at your head?

Here is our hope. Whatever comes unexpectedly for us, never catches the Lord by surprise.  He knew the road you are on before you ever set foot on it. So, when Jesus says, "follow Me," He is inviting you to walk with Him into the fully known unknown. Trust Him and keep moving forward.  Those derails may just provide a divine encounter where He reveals an opportunity you'd have missed if things had gone as you planned. Sometimes the blowouts bring us to a place of blessing we'd have otherwise driven right past if left to our design.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
